Mrs. Nancy Vasquez

 

Mrs. Nancy Vasquez graduated from University of Texas Pan American in 1996
where she received her Bachelors in Kinesiology with a minor in Special
Education. Mrs. Vasquez obtained a Master’s in Educational Counseling and
Administration from the University of Pan American in 2002. Mrs. Vasquez
holds a Texas Educator certificate in All-Level Physical Education (PK-12)
Secondary Generic Special Education (6-12) Counselor’s (PK-12) and Principal
(EC-12). This year is Mrs. Vasquez seventh year as an assistant principal at
Harwell Middle School, where she has assisted students of all grade levels, but
this year her emphasis will be on 7th grade. Ms. Vasquez joined Harwell Middle
School in February 2011, following fifteen years of service within the Edinburg
 Independent School District. Her professional career began at Memorial Middle
School, where she taught students in the special education department before
continuing as a special education teacher and department head for 4 years at
B.L. Garza Middle School. She continued to serve the B.L. Garza Middle School
students as a Migrant and Academic Counselor. In addition, she served B.L.
Garza Middle School as the Testing Coordinator.

 

Mrs. Vasquez is married to Lupe Vasquez and has three children. They have two
grandchildren and two on the way. Mrs. Vasquez believes “Education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela. 

 

Mr. Arturo Gonzalez

Mr. Gonzalez is a 1989 graduate of Roma High School.  He graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Reading in May of 1995.  Mr. Gonzalez obtained a Masters in Educational Administration in May of 2006.  He holds a Texas Educator Certificate in Elementary Self Contained (1-8), Elementary Reading (1-8), Bilingual/ESL (1-8) and Principal (1-12).  This is Mr. Gonzalez’s 13th year as an assistant principal. Prior to Harwell, Mr. Gonzalez worked as a 5th grade teacher at Lee Elementary.  His Experience ranges from Science teacher at Lee Elementary, Reading and Social Studies teacher at Esparza Elementary, 5rd grade Reading and 4th grade writing teacher at Alton Elementary, and 3rd grade teacher math teacher at F.J. Scott Elementary in Roma.  He is also a small business owner.

 

Mr. Gonzalez is happily married to Olga Gonzalez.  They have two children Alyssa Loren and Arturo Jr.  Mr. Gonzalez is philosophy is that, “Every student has to potential to be great given the right tools and motivation.”  His mission is to motivate, and guide students to achieve their greatest potential. 

Mrs. Daisy De Leon

Mrs. Daisy De Leon is a proud 2003 graduate from La Joya High School.  She earned a Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Minor in Bilingual Education from the University of Texas Pan American in 2008.  Mrs. De Leon continued her education and obtained a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas Pan American in 2011. She holds a Texas Educator Certificate in Bilingual Generalist-Spanish (EC-4), English Language Arts and Reading (4-8) and Principal certificate (EC-12).  This is Mrs. De Leon’s 3rd year as an Assistant Principal at Harwell Middle School.  Prior to Harwell, Mrs. De Leon was a teacher in La Joya ISD.  She taught Pre-Kindergarten and third grade.

Mrs. De Leon is happily married to Jacob De Leon and have a son; Aiden Jacob. Mrs. De Leon and her family reside in the city of Pharr.  Mrs. De Leon believes that “if a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” Her mission is to ensure all students are provided quality education that will prepare them for their future. 

Mrs. Erika Torres

Mrs. Torres is a 2003 graduate of La Joya I.S.D. She graduated from the University of Texas Pan American where she received her Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2007 and a Masters in Educational Administration in 2010. Mrs. Torres holds a Texas Educator certificate in Bilingual Generalist (EC-4), Generalist (EC-4),  English Language Arts and Reading( EC4-8), and  Principal (EC-12).

 Mrs. Torres is entering her first year as an Assistant Principal for 8th grade.  Previously she served as Harwell’s Curriculum Assistant Principal for three years.  Prior to Harwell she taught 7th grade reading and writing at Memorial Middle School for three years. Formerly she taught 1st grade for one year at Austin Elementary and third grade for three years.

 

Mrs. Torres is happily married to Daniel Torres Jr.  They have two children, Denelli Mae  and Daniel III. Mrs. Torres and her family reside in Edinburg Texas. Mrs. Torres has a passion for education and believes that “education is the most powerful tool that one can use to change the world.”  Her mission is to provide the leadership needed to ensure that all students become a success story.
